World Premiere —“Closer Than Yesterday” follows two young San Francisco Ballet dancers behind the scenes as they compete on the world stage at the Helsinki International Ballet Competition. As they navigate setbacks and comebacks, they’re coached by former San Francisco Ballet Principal Dancer Tiit Helimets. Rigorous preparations and passionate commitment steel them for a journey of unexpected twists and turns. Intimate dialogue, studio rehearsals, and thrilling performances showcase their daily hard work and sacrifices alongside their anxieties, frustrations, exhaustion, and exhilaration in an environment where tensions run as high as their spirits.
This screening is followed by a Q&A with director Lisa Le Lievre, dancer Carmela Mayo, and producer/coach Tiit Helimets moderated by Katja Björner.
VIP ticket holders are invited to attend a special pre-screening reception from 6-7:30PM.

BALLET MASTERCLASS WITH TIIT HELIMETS:
In affiliation with this screening, former San Francisco Ballet Principal Dancer Tiit Helimets will teach a ballet masterclass for advanced ballet students of any age on Saturday, October 5, from 5-7:30pm at Smuin Center for Dance. It is designed to be particularly beneficial to competition-focused dancers. The class will demand a high-level of technical proficiency in classical ballet and will focus on blending technical skill and artistic expression. Click here for more information and to register.

Venue Accessibility: Lucasfilm Premier Theater is located at 1 Letterman Drive in the Presidio. Accessible parking is available at the front entrance of Lucasfilm in the cul de sac off of Letterman Drive. For accessible entrance into the Lucasfilm Building, proceed to past the Yoda Fountain to the doors to the right. Entrance is on the ground level.
