The social and political repression of women finds expression through one woman’s defiant story in “Without Her.” A dance unfolds on a desolate muddy plain as she fights the heavy weight of restrictions and engages in frustrated attempts at dialogue. A haunting song floats softly on the wind as she strides on, reaching and searching for self-expression. The film calls us to question how we mourn the loss of women’s spirits and bodies, and what remains to fill the void they leave behind.
