2024 Co-Laboratory
SFDFF’s 2024 Co-Laboratory film, Chair Deconstruction, was created in collaboration between SFDFF, filmmaker Amanda Beane, and Embodiment Project, a San Francisco Bay Area-based street dance ensemble led by Nicole Klaymoon. A two-part dance piece exploring communal healing, the film will premiere at Bay Area Shorts on October 20, 2024, as part of the 2024 San Francisco Dance Film Festival.

Amanda Beane
Director, Producer
Seedling of a traveling salesman and a copywriter, Amanda Beane sprouted from the muddy soil of Seattle, WA where she slept under her mother’s typewriter and fashioned Barbie clothes from the single sock drawer. Making a premature departure from high school (before she even arrived), Beane took root at California College of the Arts, where she graduated honorably with a double major in jewelry/metal arts and textiles. Beane began her budding career as a production designer before blossoming into a director.
Nicole Klaymoon
Choreographer
As a choreographer, poet, and founder/co-director of Embodiment Project, Nicole Klaymoon’s dance seeks to gives voice to underrepresented narratives. As a white/jewish queer woman, Klaymoon is committed to anti-racist embodiment, shifting power dynamics, and accountability. Rooted in Kingian Nonviolence, intersectionality, and eco-feminism/womanism, Klaymoon’s work centers street dance and hip-hop’s cultural significance as expression, resistance, and empowerment. Through autobiographical storytelling and multidisciplinary performance, she contextualizes complex topics while amplifying survivors and movement leaders. Her creative process adopts a documentary theater approach, fostering trust and collaboration with interview subjects. Through in-depth conversations, Klaymoon gathers first-hand accounts woven with live music, spoken word, and choreography integrating choreopoetry – an interplay of language and movement, intellectual and visceral.
