Using poetry and movement, “FREE” narrates an all too common tale of Black youth entanglement in the criminal legal system. A young man arrested for petty vandalism reckons with oppression, anxiety, and disempowerment that follows him through life even as he grows and changes. With his frustrations pushed to the limit, he dances out his emotions, falling and rising to find passion, purpose, and strength in himself and the courage to continue on toward a freedom that comes from within. Poetry by Marc Bamuthi Joseph, music by Daniel Bernard Roumain, and produced by SOZO Impact.
